ADORABLE QUALITIES OF RAVANA
We know Ravana was a bad person. But Our mythology always said abou good and bad of everybody, his strengths and weaknesses also. In the process they told what are inferior qualities in a person that lead to his destruction. Now we see the great qualities of Ravana who with a single abominable quality viz. impetuous passion for ladies.
Ravana was Shiva's greatest devotee a scholarly Ravana is credited to have composed Shiv Tandav Strotram pleased by the his devotion Shiva gave him his mighty sword Chandrahas.
Under his father Vishravas's tutelage, Ravana mastered the Vedas, the holy books. It is very clear from the references in the Ramayana that Ravana was no commoner among the Humans or Asuras, a great chanter of the Sama Veda.
According to the Ramayana Ravana was the son of a Brahmin father sage Vishravas, a Prajapati (Lord Brahma's descendents), and a Rakshasa mother Kaikesi, thus attaining a status of Brahmarakshasa.
Ravan was not only a good warrior but was also a scholar in astrology he wrote a book Ravan Samhita on Astrology. Ravana also possessed a thorough knowledge of Ayurveda.
Ravana had knowledge of Ragas was a prolific Veena Player.He is credited for an Instrument Ravanahatha.
He was a great warrior.This is the quality that he boasted the most he became Trilokadipati,defeated humans,demons,devas,serpent races due to his excellent skills as a warrior.
Ravana was a great king under his rule Lanka reached to its greatest heights even the most poor had gold utensils in their house such was the pomposity of his kingdom that it was known as "Sone ki Lanka"(The golden Lanka)
Such was the knowledge of Ravana in political science that Rama after defeating Ravana suggested Lakshmana to learn Politics and Duties of a King from Ravana.
Even after listing the qualities of the great Dashgriva,Dashanan Ravan we will be skeptic whether to term him as an Antagonist or an Anti-Hero . May we console calling him as anti hero.
Only his ardour for a lady, that too an exemplary wife who totally committed to her husband, made him to touch the dust. Hence for every being 'Self Criticism' will always reset him on the pedestal of Dharma.
